A hot-spring bath is said to be effective for treating various skin diseases, the gout, arthritis, neuralgia, rheumatism, (when ingested) gastric diseases or even diabetes as well as promoting blood circulation and soothing aching muscles and joints.

There are a few things to look out for when taking a hot-spring bath, especially in a communal pool. Thai are scrupulous observers of personal cleanliness and always wash before entering the pool; SHAMPOO AND SOAP SHOULD NEVER USED INSIDE THE POOL.
Once inside the pool, move slowly. In the really hot pools especially beloved Japanese bathers, making waves can make life very uncomfortable for yourself and other bathers. As a rule of thumb, DO NOT soak in the baths for more than five to ten minutes before getting out and taking a rest out of the hot water. Some people suffer from heart problems or high blood pressure is not advice to take a hot-spring bath without consulting their doctors beforehand. |
